Dr. Thomas brings more than 25 years of experience to ACS, leading health disparities research and program initiatives almost exclusively on breast cancer with a community-led and volunteer-engaged focus. During her tenure, she developed and led Project Hoffnung (Hope), a culturally competent breast health program to increase breast cancer screening among Amish and Mennonite communities. Most recently, she served as project director for the Ohio Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection program. She was formerly an assistant professor at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine where she leads research projects on breast cancer education and health disparities in underserved communities, including rural, Appalachian, and LGBTQ+ communities.
